Facebook - Good, Bad or Ugly
Facebook for personal use I feel is bit of a mixed bag and the reason I say that is because you can find your long lost friend and on the flip side your long lost friend can find you....what's wrong with that I hear you ask. Well you, me, our neighbours or our neighbour's neighbours, everyone in life have come across people that we wouldn't want to share personal stuff with and in Facebook unless you change your name or make it unsearchable anyone in the world can find you. What do you do then? Decline / ignore their requests and be rude or oblige and be unhappy about it. The other option then is to make usergroups and share info only with a list of people from your friends list.
Apart from this there is always security issue...we have to keep in mind that Facebook being the first of its kind hasn't got a lot to learn from. It' learning on the go and there's lot of things that even the founder - Mark Zuckerberg didn't think of before have millions of users on his website. Facebook has done decent job in getting the security measures in but I'd still say it's not fool proof. There are lot of weirdos out there who would find info, pics, location etc on Facebook profiles and use it in a way it wasn't intended to be.
My advice to one & all having a personal Facebook profile is before adding someone as a friend make sure you know them personally, have limited personal information which you share with close friends & family and make sure you have gone through the security measures and are comfortable with them.
Facebook for business is one of the most cost-effective way to get your brand's presence felt online. Let's face it, number don't lie....with more than 600 million active users having a dedicated Facebook page talking about your business, products & services makes perfect sense as it can reach out to masses helping interact with current & potential clients. Businesses facing online reputation management challenges can use Facebook to potentially take one of the spots on the search engine results page (SERP) because Facebook pages and profiles get indexed as well by giant search engines like Google, Bing etc.
If the cards are played correctly a business Facebook page could explode and the online community can be massive adding to brands reputation however naysayer will argue having a Facebook page may involve sitting online hours monitoring the posts...well the Rome colosseum wasn't built overnight.
IMHO (In my humble opinion)
Facebook Personal use - Yes with limited info
Facebook Business use - oh yeah...for sure!
