Content Management System (CMS)
A Content management system (CMS) also known as Web content management system (WCMS) is a piece of software designed to simplify the publication of web content to web sites — in particular, allowing content creators to submit content without requiring technical knowledge. Gone are the days when every single webpage had to be manually updated, imagine being the content manager for a news publication website...you wouldn't have any hair left on your scalp. To avoid this from happening and to ease the process of maintaining websites for one and all, geniuses have developed WCMS.
There are number of WCMS available and to buy some of them one needs to be either a part of multi-million dollar company or win a lottery. But don't sigh just yet as there is hope out there for businesses whose profit don't get into those high numbers. Presenting Open source WCMS, simply put it means they don't come with a hefty price tag that brings your mojo down, infact they are free to use. There are few decent Open Source WCMS out there, one of which is Joomla (funny name but so is Google and yahoo).
As stated on their official website, Joomla is an award-winning content management system (CMS), which enables you to build Web sites and powerful online applications. Many aspects, including its ease-of-use and extensibility, have made Joomla the most popular Web site software available. Some big names use Joomla for their websites, check the links below.
There are heaps of plugins, modules and components available that adds to features & functionality to the website, however to configure them and have a easy to maintain website setup one does require some technical knowledge. I have used Joomla since few years for most of my projects and have developed expertise in this WCMS.

IMHO (In my humble opinion)
CMS Enterprise edition – Yes if you’ve got the money and see the returns
CMS Open Source – Nothing better for a Small, Medium enterprise or personal use
